The server my agents live on

It keeps what it hears. Three machines, every fifteen minutes.

Oracle Cloud ARM · Tailscale · systemd · SQLite FTS5 · Discord

ISubjectWho it was for

A 4-core ARM box on Oracle Cloud, joined over Tailscale to a laptop, an office PC and a phone.

IIPresenting symptomThe problem

Agent work stopped when the laptop lid closed. Context was scattered across three machines. Every small judgment burned frontier-model tokens.

IIIReconstructionWhat was really going on

Three failures, one cause: the work lived wherever I happened to be sitting. Sessions were tied to one terminal on one machine, history was split across hosts nobody reconciled, and yes/no questions went to models priced for essays.

So the agents needed a home that does not sleep, one memory, and a cheap way to decide small things.

IVInterventionWhat I built

  1. 01

A Discord cockpit starts, steers and compacts Claude Code and Gemini sessions in tmux from my phone. Voice notes and links dropped in Discord land in the second-brain inbox.

  2. 02

Yes/no, choice and scoring calls go to Jev, a small calibrated decision model, through a local proxy, at roughly $0.00002 a call.

  3. 03

Every 15 minutes, chat and session history from three machines is pulled into one append-only vault, with a daily hardlinked snapshot kept for 30 days. Credentials and caches are filtered out.

  4. 04

A second brain of 10,159 notes sits behind SQLite FTS5. Agents search and rerank first, then load the top two notes instead of reading dozens.

VILimitationsWhat it doesn't do

  • It is private, so there is no repo to read. What you can check is the live feed on /wired, which is aggregate and delayed on purpose.
  • One box in one region: a single point of failure.
  • The decision router has no fallback since I removed the local one on 28 Sep 2026. If the gateway is down, callers use their own judgment and say so.
  • Jev decides; it does not reason. Maths, dates and multi-step work still go to a frontier model.
